After much hard work, the New Year brings a brand new kiosk to La Unión, the little hamlet of the Peace Community of San José de Apartadó! In addition to the demanding work that their land and crops constantly require, over the past weeks peace community members were busy tearing down the old kiosk, preparing and gathering materials, and rebuilding a new one. Just days ago, the roof was completed and the new kiosk stands beautifully in the center of La Unión. Our accompaniment team in La Unión has been capturing the progress of the demolition and rebuilding….
- Tearing down the old, damaged kiosk.
- A view from the top.
- Burning the damaged palm leaves from the old roof.
- Cutting wood to build the new kiosk.
- Cutting down and gathering palm leaves for the new roof.
- And the framing begins, board by board.
- From a distance, the new wooden framing stands out against the rich green background.
- Carrying leaves to the kiosk from where they were cut down and bundled together.
- And the roof goes up, little by little.
- Balancing up high to complete the framing of the roof…
- Mule delivery…more leaves for the roof.
- Cows enjoy the shade of the completed kiosk roof!
