Black Lives Matter Everywhere

We continue our Longing for Peace campaign this week with a video that tells the story of the Afro-Colombian community of Buenaventura–an amazingly resilient community that, two years ago, transformed their neighborhood of 1,000 people into a peace zone.

Just months after the outrageous shooting of a young African-American youth Michael Brown, at the hands of police, we received a request from a Colombian partner organization. We were asked to join them in accompanying this neighborhood known locally as the Humanitarian Space–organized in response to State and paramilitary violence in Buenaventura, a largely Afro-Colombian city and one of South America’s most violent.
