Update from Buenaventura

Aug 14, 2026 | News

On August 10th, Colombia was struck by a devastating 7.4 magnitude earthquake. Many of our partner CONPAZCOL’s network has been deeply impacted by this. Communities we have worked closely with in Buenaventura and Choco have lost their homes and many of their belongings. It will take a long time to rebuild but we are grateful that no one in the network lost their lives in the earthquake.

One of the worst hit is the Valledupar indigenous community, who has been living in shelters after being displaced by violence in 2022. Their current shelter was destroyed in the earthquake and they have nowhere to go. This includes 22 families, a total of 96 people. Funding will be used to meet their basic needs and pay for temporary shelter if necessary.
